My wife and I have flipped a few houses. We left a couple of rags with fresh varnish on a cement floor at one of the projects and came back to find they had spontaneously combusted and the house filled with soot. Had those rags been near any other combustible material we would have had a huge problem.
I find the ND fire suspicious but, stuff like that does happen. Centuries old wood burns like gasoline.

I’m leaning toward a highly controlled, clandestine operation to torch the church for distraction, sympathy, or demoralization. I think the French Govt. burned it themselves, again motives unclear.

I think this because nobody died, they got most if not all of the artwork out, and at the end of the day the building did not burn down.

On the other hand, it seems the muzzards had set Notre Dame as target #1 some time ago, so there’s plenty of reason to suspect them. I can’t credit it as an accident because I can’t get my arms around how an accident starts a fire that races from one end of the roof to the other. I’m pretty sure the timbers of the roof were covered with lead; how could they catch fire without a lot of help. Moreover, France is supposed to be a first world country. How could they have shoddy construction practices that could allow a fire to get so completely out of control.

Nothing about it makes sense, ergo it must be a derp st@te operation.
