My Aunt used to call the Ni__er toes.
Yeah. But that’s not what we called them when we were kids.
surprised the liberals didn’t rename it to ‘honky white trash creek’
I remember too!
Brought back a bunch of these from Taiwan a few years ago:
Jefferson Mountain in NC used to be called n_gger head mountain and was renamed when the area became a state park in 1952.
I guess Jefferson’s dalliance with Sally Hemings wasn’t well known then.
Well, they should have been glad it wasn’t the other n word.
Sort of funny attached to “Skidaway”. Yeah, not PC.
ISIS? That’s a little far fetched?
I have no problem with this. FReepers shouldn’t, either.
Let’s not take it personally. I asked a fairly conservative black friend if he finds the name offensive and he said, yes. A better name would be in order.
It’s a fair name change, and doesn’t mask the history we all were just told about.
In the SOUTH in the 19th century (or most anywhere in the US at the time)? You think the locals said “Negro” creek? I’m sure they used the more common “N” word.
IAC, even though I've fished it many, many times, bass fishing stinks inside that bay... Maybe that's where the ships made their final purge of dead bodies before docking? Then the sharks referenced by a communist politician in Congress were being screwed out of a meal...
OTOH, the rest of Currituck Bay is teaming with bass, but there is lots of "diversity" in the types of fish in the bay...
OTOH, the rest of Currituck Bay Sound is teaming with bass, but there is lots of "diversity" in the types of fish in the bay sound..
Sorry...
Not far fetched.
Besides being a muslim terrorist group; one of their primary aims was to delete and destroy important historical artifacts and sites. And to eliminate the cultural heritage of the region.
Like liberals do here in the US.
Oh of course, southerners only use what is considered the worst word ever. They never bothered to use the Latin word.
Never mind the fact that allegedly worst word ever is actually just a lazy pronunciation of the proper word, negro.
I just pointed out “south” because the locale of this name change is the south. Of course it was common usage everywhere.
Fortunately we still have...
Negro Mountain, PA
Nigton, TX
Beaner Lake, WA
Squaw Humper Dam, SD
Piestewa Peak (formerly “Squaw’s Tit”), NV
Wetback Tank Reserve, Truth or Consequences, NM
Darkey Springs, TN
Enjoy visiting while you still can.
And my personal favorites...
Whitesboro, NY (where I lived for a few years as a kid)
The Teton Mountains. Early French voyageurs named the range les trois tétons (”the three nipples”). The far less crude and more woke Shoshone people called the whole range Teewinot, meaning “many pinnacles.”
One of my favorite movies of all time!
“Well, to tell the family secret, my grandmother was Dutch.”
A 1949 map of Sacramento (N3830-W12122.5/7.5) features an interestingly named slough which is where Arden Mall is today.
(-:
Due to the offensive connotations attached
to the team name, the Washington Redskins
are changing their name to the Andover Redskins.
Youre better than us.
+1
