A student at Fordham University in New York died Sunday just a few hours after falling three stories from the campus clock tower, according to news reports.
Monfries somehow fell through an opening in a landing and plunged 30 feet down the inside of the tower. She was critically hurt, with injuries to her head and body, police said.
Although Keating Hall is locked and closed at night and access to the tower is restricted at all times, students still manage to find a way in to climb to the top of the Gothic tower to see the skyline, school administrators said. Students told the Times that climbing the tower is a storied rite of passage.

A “rite of passage”? Well, yes, it certainly was that.
You never did anything stupid as a young person?
Sure did. And it hurt every single time.

And, by the way, a having a "journalism" major is scarcely an indicator of any intellectual achievement. She should be eligible for a Darwin award. She meets the criteria. Climbing a locked clock tower, "for the view"? No mention of a selfie.
Did she fall, or was she inconvenient to an aggressive progressive?
In the current climate, it's only payback. And journalists, with their "if it bleeds, it leads" mind set, should not expect any more sympathy than they exhibit.
The equation is balanced, even if she couldn't.
Amen. Should'a been dead several times in my teens and a couple of times serving in the Navy. Then recently as a senior citizen I dropped dead on the basketball court and was revived. God's been better to me than I deserve (apologies to Dave Ramsey).
My memory isn't what it used to be. I only remember the episode because I thought it a bit of a stretch, even for Mon. :-)
Yeah me too. We also would climb the light towers at Grant Field.
It seems that high school aged deaths happen more frequently around graduation time so it is not surprising these events happen around college graduations too.
Pretty girl. What a shame. As an aside, I wonder how much it cost her - or her family - to get a journalism degree from Fordham? I’m thinking on the order of $200K....
the error isn’t yours; you posted a news story about the tragic death of a young person. but the reaction tells you worlds about the lumpenproletariat here at FR.
He said, colossal dicks, huh huh huh...
Yeah! Colossal! heh heh heh...
And there is no actual bell.
“The tower has a clock mechanism and a tank for firefighting water, according to school officials. But there is no bell in the tower, the school said. The sounds of bells tolling are a recording.”

ask not for whom the bell tolls...
Never mix Clock Towers and Gravity.
“I had a friend who died playing stupid games in high school. I suppose this is more common than we would like to think. RIP to the young lady.”
I had a friend who died on the first day of Junior High School. He was walking between train cars, the train hit a curve and he fell into the wheels and the third rail.

If her parents co-signed them, they will be.
How many of us ...but by Gods Grace, escaped similar youthful moments...
I did.
...several times.
Guilty here too.....
