Big Man Of Coeur D’alene Makes For A Night To Remember (UN-PC!)
The Coeur d'Alene Press ^ | 4/14/19 | Devin Weeks

From the moment they gallivanted onto the Coeur d'Alene Eagles stage, umbrellas twirling, the contestants of the first Big Man of Coeur d'Alene had their audience wrapped around their brawny fingers.

"Oh my GOD!" "WOO!" "Owwww!" "He's hilarious!" and other exclamations could be heard bubbling from an effervescent crowd that at times laughed to tears as some of North Idaho's most prominent dudes thrust all of their energy into a Saturday night to remember to benefit the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre.

...said a spunky Dr. Ryan Bones. "It is absolutely fantastic to see a completely sold-out crowd, standing room only, packed Eagles ballroom for a first-year event.

The gentlemen performed a cute opening number before they donned their swimwear and shook their coconuts for cash. The "womanless beauty pageant" took on an all-male revue feel as audience members rushed the stage at times to shove dollar bills at Shane Greenfield and his inflatable unicorn pool float, or Duncan Clark Menzies as he lost his clothing along the runway.

...Dave Fleischman showed everyone how to make an Old Fashioned while rocking a party dress and wedges.

Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre executive director Tracey Vaughan said she really wanted to put on an event that was different and showcased the talents and personalities of local people. "I want our community to know who we are and feel invested in this community resource, and I think the best way to do that is to reach out to the community, our awesome guys who are here tonight, and let them spread that network out to others within their sphere," she said. "I see a lot of people here tonight who normally aren't necessarily theater-goers for Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre."

I figured that old-fashioned benefits featuring men dressed as women had to be completely dead in the entire U.S. because the country has gone insane and lost its sense of humor. But not here in Coeur d'Alene! GO IDAHO! Sanity prevails.

Top Dog Larry Bieber flips his lovely locks as he models a swimsuit on the runway of the Big Man of Coeur d’Alene womanless beauty pageant Saturday evening in the Coeur d'Alene Eagles ballroom.

I'm sure this was tame compared to men-in-drag community fund raisers in the past, but it is great to see that Idaho is flipping off the incessant PC crap we all live with and raising funding for a great cause. In the photo, notice the ladies on the left having the best time of all catcalling the guy on the catwalk.

What could be more PC than men dressed as women?

All I’ll say is not all traditions are of equal value.
The audience will decide.

Wow, closet liberals hiding out on FR that seem to be offended. Who would have thought?

Not “PC Offended” here. They can do whatever they wish for charity. To be blunt, it just looks ugly. If I was in that town and supported this particular cause, this little performance would not stop me from writing a check. Of course not! In many ways, I have lived a very privileged life, a blessed life. So I try to help others less fortunate.

I just wouldn’t be in THIS audience, clapping wildly. That’s why I said, to each his or her own. I’ll find some other way to help.
If this is what entertains this group of generous people, then so be it.

It’s a huge charity event. They raised a lot of money for the summer performing arts theater group.

I'm guessing that you are correct (it being Idaho and all) that this is the guys doing this as a gag - sort of a Fraternity/Milton Berle type thing to get some laughs and raise some money.

Others might think it is in seriousness - the sort of thing that San Fransisco might do. Hence the claims of being embarrassed to come from Idaho. Of course then I would think the crowd might be filled with gay men and other cross-dressers. Not a bunch of middle-aged women.

And then there was Larry Bieber, who joked that he didn’t even want to be there, but he ended up winning the contest, anyway.

“I really don’t know how my wife gets me into these things,” said Bieber, who was crowned as the evening’s Top Dog.

That’s exactly right. I just thought it refreshing that this sort of burlesque / variety show could still go on these days. There aren’t many parts of the country where this would pass muster in these hyper-sensitive, always-offended times. Sure it’s corny and old fashioned, but that’s what makes it so great.

I love people putting themselves out there like this for a good cause. I probably would have attended if I weren’t sick. I’ll still donate to the summer theater troupe.
