LOL! As a teenager I worked for a farmer. One day he told me to scoop out the farrow house (where sows are penned before they litter). The farrow house is a low structure that consists of narrow cages on either side of a large central area. In order to clean out the individual pens I had to release the sows, one by one, into the larger area while I scooped out the crap from the pen, and then herd the sow back into the cage. One sow became quite belligerent and came at me with mouth agape (sows may not have tusks but they have huge canines, 3 or 4 inches long). At first I managed to fend her off by putting the scoop shovel blade between her and I but she nosed it aside and kept coming. I resorted to bashing her on the nose with the shovel but that didn’t work either. Finally, I grabbed one of the rafters and hoisted myself up. There I remained until the sow wandered back into her pen, then I jumped down and slammed the gate. Terrifying experience!
They don’t have to be feral. Friend’s of our raise pigs and when the husband is out in their pens, his wife watches from the kitchen with a loaded shotgun.
