It was a mere two years ago that Michael Smith was one of the franchise faces of ESPN.
He and his tag-team partner, Jemele Hill, had matching four-year, $10 million contracts and were out front on what was supposed to be a fresher, hipper 6 p.m. SportsCenter.
Today, Smith is in a gold-plated purgatory, nearly ostracized by ESPN.
He is rarely on-air and, according to sources, there is no current plan for his final two years at the network.

My bad $10 MM is the total value of the contract.
White privilege.
For some reason black media figures often feel the need to street it up, keep it real, etc. when on the air as if they are somehow stealthily using the white man’s airwaves to communicate in code. It’s embarrassing, outdated thinking.
Their other failing is, of course, the belief that everything is about race all the time. Sun behind a cloud? Race. Rainy day? Race. It’s boring and repetitive.
Glad to see both of them gone, but they made a nice payday!
There never was, and never will be again, the effort and money expended in cross-promotion done for two no-talent, affirmative-action hires than Smith & Hill. Their regular Wednesday appearance on the old Mike & Mike show was a change-the-channel moment for me.
Smith was the least offensive of the duo. Jemele Hill is the prototype for racist, angry black women. She is toxic.
Smith seemed reasonable, if only by contrast to Hill.
ESPN is so invested in social justice and leftism that it is unwatchable.
“Their regular Wednesday appearance on the old Mike & Mike show was a change-the-channel moment for me.”
And now, Get Up is nothing more than throw up to me.
I had to search to find Golic and Wingo. Much better than Mike and Mike if only because that weeny Greenberg is gone. Now, if they would just ditch Golic Jr. I get that they’re trying to appeal to a younger crowd, but Golic Jr. is annoying.
I never understood these hosting salaries. Millions of dollars for what? Doing what anyone else could do?
Never watched or listened to one second of what Clay Travis calls “Get Woke”.

I like that. I’ve never watched either. The trio hosting it was enough to repel me.
yup...meanwhile:
“Smith stayed behind and even tried to continue as a SportsCenter anchor. Longtime ESPN executive Norby Williamson by then was in charge of SportsCenter, and he turned to a more traditional approach, moving from Smith to Sage Steele and Kevin Negandhi.
Whatever the circumstances of SC6s failures, ratings have gone up with Steele and Negandhi.”
Sage Steele- besides being a cutie- is a talented conservative who was demoted at one point for a tweet when she complained about anti-Trump protestors at LAX...
He was in “Highly Questionable” last week. I thought he was pretty good there, for the most part.
will never watch Wingo- he’s a bleeding heart left winger...
Yes, I did see him while changing the channels. It is too bad these guys can’t just stick to sports and leave the politics alone.
Does anyone work at ESPN who is NOT a bleeding heart left winger?
Golic Sr. is the only one that comes to mind.
Thats the puke who wore the virtue signaling
Bizarro-Chief Wahoo Caucasians jersey right?
I don't expect a ping..
This is what is a HUGE problem in the U.S.A,,,,,,
