It wasn’t even TSA that got me started on this. I just realized one day that a three-hour flight was basically a 6+ hour travel ordeal ... so the combination of the wasted time and the major inconvenience of being subject to the whims of a flight schedule and airline operations made it silly to fly to most destinations within a day’s drive.
I agree about TIME for flying, besides which, when you DRIVE, you can pack completely differently (just throw stuff in the trunk, if you want.... carry whatever food and drinks you want). You can stop and go as it suits your mood and energy level, weather, traffic, etc. And you don’t have to walk a half mile or more from the front door of the airport to the plane and back (not that walking is bad for you).
I used to fly around the Hawaiian Islands several times a week for business. After 9/11 I was spending so much time in airports going through security, my boss decided it was more cost effective for the company to pay for my flight instruction so I could get a pilot’s license, rent a plane (Or fly my boss’s Cessna) and fly myself.
That took the job to a whole new level of fun.
