The old SNL skit where Lil’ Tommy Tucker, from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, asks, “what if Superman had landed in Nazi Germany instead of Kansas?”
Stupid conjecture. What if I had been born a redwood tree? What if yesterday didn’t happen until tomorrow?
People think the Blitzkrieg was a brilliant strategery. There was no “brilliance” about it, it was a concession to the fact of Germany’s very limited resources. They knew they couldn’t support a protracted war, so it was necessary to hit hard and fast.
The Japanese acknowledged that their army might defeat the American army on the field of battle but they could never have defeated the American citizenry at home. Even if they never stated, the Nazis knew the same was true of them.
