Joseph Smith made a statement (paraphrasing) that of all other religions, he considered Islam the best. Islam and LDS have a lot in comment. There would be two immediate advantages from sister wives:
1) Greater rivalry for the man's affections.
2) Fewer mothers-in-law to deal with.
