I live in southern UT. The place to really experience the canyon views is Tuweep (Toroweap). It about an 85 mile BLM (dirt/rock) “road” drive to the rim. There are no facilities. You can drive and walk right up to the rim with a 3000+ foot drop to the river. It is absolute boonies with hardly anyone ever there. There are driving cautions but we made it with a Toyota SUV. Take an extra tire/wheel in addition to your spare. There is no cell phone access. If you like boonies...this is it.
