Park rangers responded to a call shortly before noon Wednesday that someone had fallen over the rim.

The park's helicopter and technical rescue team recovered the body of a 67-year-old man. The name and hometown of the man wasn't immediately available.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating the death, park officials said.

A spokeswoman said it was the first over-the-edge death this year at Grand Canyon National Park, which had 17 fatalities last year.

I must have hit my head while climbing there? HARD!

I used to hear(?) that it was deeper.
Not true, you are correct.

Sorry about the fake news.

I live in southern UT. The place to really experience the canyon views is Tuweep (Toroweap). It about an 85 mile BLM (dirt/rock) “road” drive to the rim. There are no facilities. You can drive and walk right up to the rim with a 3000+ foot drop to the river. It is absolute boonies with hardly anyone ever there. There are driving cautions but we made it with a Toyota SUV. Take an extra tire/wheel in addition to your spare. There is no cell phone access. If you like boonies...this is it.
