A local family is devastated after their pet pig Princess got loose and was killed for meat by an opportunistic community member. Now that person could be facing charges.
Shes very sweet, Princesss owner Carrie Hogan told the Outpost, still referring to the animal in the present tense. Shes not aggressive. She likes to be around people.
Last Saturday morning, Princess, a near-400 pound Hampshire cross pig, escaped from her pen at a residence on Park Street on Fickle Hill in Arcata and took a high-profile jaunt around the neighborhood, occasionally stopping to graze in open front yards. The swines unauthorized outing drew the attention of concerned neighbors, and by 9 a.m. her exploits were featured on Humboldt Paws Causes Facebook page.

Guy who "sheltered the sow may be in trouble, according to local laws but suburbanites shouldn't own farm animals.
Too many of these are not properly maintained and when the "cuteness" and novelity wears off, they are dumped by the roadside. We know, it happened alot to us.

Sweet. As in succulent.
The "friendly neighbor" certainly thought so.

I get your point but murder does not refer to animals.

It's an old line from comedian Dennis Leary
I thought it very funny and it pisses off PETA people.

Even if you eat meat and that is your primary take out of this episode there are such things as property laws.
That's why I added "Guy who "sheltered the sow may be in trouble, according to local laws"
I'll also add that if you say you're going to do something with the understanding that you will do it, you should do it. A man is only as good as his word.
But I don't hold the mere fact of "slaughtering" the creature against him.
He accepted taking care of the creature with the understanding the owners may be looking for it. "Hours" doesn't sound like he intended to "shelter" the critter, besides his larder.
We had a pot bellied pig dropped on us because the owners didn't want it anymore(we're on a farm with highway access) We waited for about three months for any one to come claim it. None came and Mom was tired of it destroying her garden and flowers beds. So Dad shot it.

I’ve grown up on a farm. My uncle butchered many pigs. It’s food. If a pig is on my land, tomorrow it’s on the menu.

Clearly that was someones property. Wild pigs dont look like that, nor are they that clean and well fed.
This butcher sounds like a world class a-hole.
