A few days ago, I was watching Barney Miller reruns on YouTube. Wojo had arrested a man in a dress. For no other reason than it was illegal for a man to cross dress as a woman.
Can you believe it? In 1975 it was not normal and even illegal to be a tranny on the streets.

In San Francisco, there was a nightclub called “Finnochios” where “female impersonators strutted their campy stuff.” It operated from 1929 to 1999. For seven decades we kept the bizarre and weird confined to a few nightclubs across the nation.
It’s no wonder they went out of business when you could find more weird stuff on every street corner.
BTW, the term “Finocchio” is Italian for fennel but is often a negative term for gay. I wonder how the Italians morphed “fennel” into “gay.”
