Our ISP is stopping their email service in two weeks. What is a good free replacement? We have a total of five accounts on the current service. Thank you.
So no matter if we have email service from within or outside the country, it’s intercepted and stored? So much for privacy!
Gmail. Love them or hate them, it is the best and free.
They have been using Zimbra.com(?) as the email server. They are stopping that service but still remain as our primary ISP.
Only problem with Yahoo is I always chuckle when I get an email from anyone@YAHOO.COM. I wonder why they don’t use Hotmail.com or AOL.com.
2013 Outlook works quite well for the most part.
A nasty bug though I have not been able to shake: it frequently decides to download my emails from the server an ADDITIONAL time. Then, I have tons of duplicate emails (duplicates with the same date/time).

if you dont mind the high speed, and Chinese characters, go with www.163.com. The NSA is blocked from all Chinese servers.
Whatever you do DO NOT use an American email service. They are all compromised one way or the other.

What an utter crock of sh8t. Here is ole Vannrox, trying again to convince us all that China is a benign presence in the world. Sign up with China, y’all, so China can continue its operations against freedom with you in its arena, yeah right. Get lost van.
I’m not familiar with Zimbra, I did just do a little look up on it.
I’m not sure whether your ISP is ending POP3 email or just the use of the Zimbra email client.
The most straightforward answer to your question is, call the ISP and ask them if you simply need to get a new email client for POP3 access.
Sure, most all American email services are compromised, but WTF do you think the Chinese do?
What is your OS? And I ill help look around, always willing to learn more options. Personally I don’t like opening emails in my PC. Rather have them open insulated on someone else’s server. I have a couple domains and my own email server. It’s mine... They have to serve me personally with a warrant to access it. :)
Have you considered getting a domain and server hosting? There are certain legal protections that domain owners and domain email servers have even when hosted.
Yahoo mail must be the most hacked email offering out there. It got so bad at one time that I deleted all my contacts so the next time it got hacked (2-5 times a year) at least they couldn’t use the contact addresses to spoof their spam crap.
I try to stay away from the Google search engine (directly) but the fact is their email system is the best I’ve tried for use-ability. For an extra $5 a year I get a ton more online storage so I don’t have to worry about keeping my account cleaned out of old messages I may need later.
Proton mail for secure messaging. Mail.com is another off shore account which allows you to make a personal email address. I guess I could say it’s best to have several for the different levels of security or personal appearance. It’s great when you can have them all notify your main email with a message so you know to check them. Mail.com has an app you can turn on to check multiple addresses.
Thank you, I was going to say the same thing.
You think they don’t scan any content you put in the cloud, they charge you $5 because they have to be sneaker about selling it.
I have had Gmail accommodate senders by coming in and deleting email evidence they sent me out of my box with no notice or explanation. Poof no more proof, gone.
Someday technology may allow easy perusal of those emails, otherwise considerable compute resources may be used on targeted persons nowadays to brute force decrypt.
I use an end to end encryption, offshore, in a favorable legal jurisdiction.
Not because I have top secret things I discuss, but for the same reason my home has curtains.
It is likely that someday, they will be able to crack the current level of encryption, but it wont be easy.
If they are going to break and enter without a legal warrant, they should have to work hard to carry it out.
And encryption will improve too...
I use eM-Client. It has a look & feel of MS Office Outlook.
Minimum differences between free vs. pro. - Free restricts to 2 accounts. Pro is unlimited.

happy hunting.
Sounds like you are rural. I am too. I had wildblue for awhile myself and they are crooks. I now use my cell phone as a tethered modem or hotspot to my PC as my internet connection. Prefer tethered because it keeps my phone charged up at the same time.
Get a domain and email server hosting for that domain. Domains are protected under commercial property codes. They have to physically serve the domain owner with the warrant before they can access it period.
Several FReepers have suggested Yahoo mail. In my experience Yahoo gets hacked all too frequently.
At least once a month I receive a Yahoo email from one of my friends who use Yahoo and from the content of the email I can tell their account has been hacked.
Personally, I’ve used Earthlink email, literally, for years. Never a problem, their service is never down, not a problem anywhere. It is not free.
