"I believe we need a more active role for governments and regulators," he wrote.
His call comes as US federal prosecutors are reportedly probing Facebook's data sharing deals with a number of large technology companies. The US Federal Trade Commission is said to be in talks with Facebook over a possible record fine. And European officials continue to scrutinize the company.
Zuckerberg called for regulators to hold internet companies "accountable for enforcing standards on harmful content," an idea that has served as a point of contention in the United States and other countries where social media platforms have long been immune from such legal punishments.
"Our systems would be more effective if regulation created common standards for verifying political actors," he said.
Zuckerberg also called for a "global framework" for data privacy regulations modeled on the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation.

What we need is less tech companies to hire H1B visas and hire more Americans. Zuckster is known for hiring H1B visas because of cheap labor in the guise of “we can’t find citizens with experience”. Every time I hear a CEO state they cannot find enough citizens with experience, I laugh. These stupid CEOs think that the workers outside of America are smarter and I always say well they were smarter than your hiring staff. I had to do a project for my master degree where we had to do a report on a CEO. The CEO I chose was one who said it openly he did not hire anyone over 25 because they had better brains to be innovative. That is a lawsuit just waiting to happen. I think I need a good lawyer and an app to his business, let’s see how innovative I can be with his checkbook. He is from the Ukraine.
Regulation protects the status quo... It protects the top from challenges below it. Whether it is a daycare center or a beauty shop of an internet giant. In the US we will always have some regulation.
The question is why so much? If local and state government regulate something, why is it necessary for the Feds to also regulate it?
Brussels has recently increased internet regulation greatly. Is facebook seeking a regulation war between the US and Brussels?
FEWER, not LESS.

A guy I used to work with was laid off 8/16. Software tester on electric metering systems. White American, early 50’s, degree in CS, been there 11 years. Job went to India. He could not find another job. Committed suicide 18 months later.
This bullshit has to stop.
Unless you are ultra liberal, Fakebook will censure you.
and strangely FB suggests that FB be the primary regulator.
This was the original plan for “internet neutrality”
Warren Buffett calls for more taxes on the rich.
F’kin hypocrites. All of them.

I’m calling for a meteor strike on Mark Zuckerberg.
I’d be happy if they would fix it turn off the spell checker.
I'll invoke Godwin. Goebbels creepy.
Trying to suck up to the government, after doing EXACTLY what he’s asking them to control, and then some. Totalitarian little....I can’t write what I shouldn’t even be thinking, here.
burn him...
How about we just apply the first amendment to the internet?
If anyone was serious holding internet companies accountable, Zuckerberg would be in jail now being raped repeatedly!
A. He doesn’t really mean it. And
B. The little pr*ck already cashed out, so no skin off his -ss.
Didn’t know we are in a formal classroom setting. Be careful karma is a beotch, so I hear.
You must live a very lonely life to go around correcting people on an informal forum. When you become an official admin of FR, please correct me then until then, bugger off.
We need far less zucksters in this world.
Buffet makes his money from passive income, so his call for more taxes doesn’t mean a thing unless he calls to raise the capital gains tax. The capital gains tax is how he had a lower percentage of tax than his secretary. He will never go for it and if he does he knows it will affect everyone not just the rich and a lot of people will get out of stocks.
