The Los Angeles Police Department has moved to cancel most of the few remaining concealed weapons permits in civilian hands, according to new filings in a decades-old legal case.
Chief Michel Moore said in a sworn declaration he did not believe a group of people who obtained so-called CCWs as the result of a 1994 lawsuit were still entitled to the permits, because it was unlikely the individuals still faced extraordinary physical danger to their lives.
"I do not believe the continued wholesale allowance for each to possess a CCW license based on circumstances that may have existed 24 years ago is in the best interest of the public," Moore said.

Additionally, Moore said the crime rate is down and there are more police officers on the streets, so the level of danger to an average person has been reduced.
"Technology has improved tremendously in the last 24 years which has enabled individuals to instantly communicate with law enforcement via cellphones from anywhere and at any time should they feel threatened," Moore said.

Sadly, Quincy would go along with this dangerous idea.
Are they available as personal bodyguards now?
A CCW license is good state wide. That means that a CCW issued by some other jurisdiction will still be valid in LA.
Quincy who?
Why are police officers armed when they could be issued a gun when a situation arises that requires one?
This thinking is most likely adjoined with the notion that any new physical danger that may have cropped at any time within the last 24 years does not justify new CCW's. In other words, it's the ratchet effect - one can only lose a CCW, never gain it.
I have a cat named Quincy, but he’s a big 2A supporter.
Everybody knows LAPD officers are faster than a speeding
bullet.
They also stand for truth, justice, and the
American way....
Yep! Sending all the cops into the "safe" zones (thus, more cops on their streets) and ignoring the crime stats from the "no-go" zones really makes citizens feel lots safer...
I thought that applied only to news reporters......and only ones from The Daily Planet!
Each and ever tyrant always took away the weapons of the people before imposing tyranny.
Quincy M.E. aka Jack Klugman.
Great but preachy show about the LA coroner.
I watch too much old TV.
I love this crap: the Chief of the LAPD says we don’t need to protect ourselves. Not from criminals, not from home invasions, not from the guy who tried to snatch my 13 year old daughter in a department store, not even the wonderful LAPD when they decide you’re the suspect.
Friggin’ Nazis hate freedom.
Half of an episode of Quincy was him yelling at people.
True.
Yeah? And how any more people are there?
Each and ever tyrant always took away the weapons of the people before imposing tyranny.
