Excellent point. I don't know of any college that produces brochures/videos for female students, to warn them of the dangers of going out drinking and coming home alone. That "safety literature" would have been from a couple of generations ago, at least, along with house mothers and chaperones.
I think they will find the person that did this. She disappeared close to campus. They have one picture of the car, so it is likely there will be more photos. College campuses are loaded with video cameras. They may even have all they need to identify the owner with just the one photo.
I guess they dont teach poly sci majors to not get wasted and get into strangers cars in the wee hours of the morning.
Sad but totally avoidable. Totally.
Having had a college age girl I can tell you parents are quite afraid to tell their kids what not to do
Parents would be smart to be aware of stories like this, a classic story, a tragedy, in order to realize that no matter how difficult it is to have that argument with their child it is ever so much easier than taking that trip to the morgue
They might also know that it is very likely to happen to a girl who rarely goes out who finds herself drugged or not aware of the effects of alcohol or in any other way naive at one am who is the one to have a bad ending
The school is depended on waaayy too much. Parents need to inform their kids
When I was in college, as an undergrad, I wasn’t aware of any “safety literature.” What I did have was guidance from my parents. They didn’t treat alcohol as evil nor did they indulge in it heavily; it was something saved for visits from relatives or for holidays. Moderation was the key. Common sense was the rest of it.
In sixth grade we were shown instructional movies (I think we had to get special sign-off from our parents to be allowed to watch these screenings) about the sad fate that awaited children who got into a strangers’ cars (reenactments spliced with real-life crime footage). One scene about a little girl in a striped dress was especially vivid. You saw here in a pretty dress in the opening scene and then the real-life police photo of her bloodied corpse in the same dress later on.
Anyway, for me those instructional videos were very effective.
Disturbing true accounts are terrible.
They can be very effective.
As a parent, I use them
My son participated as an escort in his university’s “Safe Walks” program. Students could call for an escort from classes or labs to dorms, and this was ON campus (Washington DC). There had been enough on-campus incidents to warrant such a program.
That’s great that your son took part in this.
We saw one in gym/health class about avoiding homosexuals, back in the late 50s. You couldn't show that today.
“Jimmy did not know that this man was a homosexual and a child molester” displays as hitchhiking Jimmy gets into the car...

That might have been part of the video we saw, also. Not sure.
It's utterly disgusting that yes, you're right, they would not show that video in today's public schools. Maybe even some "private" or "religious" schools as well.
I'm wondering if that video is available on Youtube or if it's been censored.
Did a search and found this: "Boys Beware." Is this what you saw?
It came up from a “1950s childrens warning” search as “1950s Police warning about homosexuals”.
Yes, same one, not titled the same.
Columbia PD says that they have the perp.
Killed and dumped in another county.
I was wrong. THIS will be the last we ever hear of it.
Perp is 24 year old black male Nathaniel Rowland.
I would have bet muzzie or mexican.
Theres a whole lot more to that case than what you posted. The arrested man was best friends with a white guy from very prominent family in that small town. The white guy committed suicide a few years later. Ive read that he had confessed to involvement in the deaths of those girls. Those two males graduated together as did the current black chief of police. Its a tangled web in that town. The dead white guys last name:Steagall. Very interesting town and history.
I think it was a very simple story.

USC student got into wrong car, was kidnapped and killed by suspect, police say
Life without parole most likely.
Death penalty for the protected class doesn’t happen here.
