This is malarkey. Pope Francis loves hugs, kisses, selfies, expansive interviews with plenty of germy press -- adulation directed at himself personally.
What he doesn't like is any sign thatit's not about "him" --- that it's the office he holds that warrants respect.
Kissing a ring is no more a matter of personal adulation than saluting an officer.

Which leads me to ask what hygiene or health issue does the Pope have that he’s afraid of spreading?
