Speaking of drones, I’m wondering if HRC’s tweet about the bees was a coded message about drones. There are drone bees. Did we all discuss that already?
A drone is a male bee. Unlike the female worker bee, drones do not have stingers and gather neither nectar nor pollen. A drone’s primary role is to mate with an unfertilized queen and create new queens.
Drones die off or are ejected from the hive by the worker bees in late autumn, and do not reappear in the bee hive until late spring.
New Zealand is now recognized as one of the world’s most advanced beekeeping countries and is a leader in several important fields. Maybe HRC’s comment was to signal the others to visit NZ quickly.
