Straight-up question. Why would anybody care enough about this c-actor to stir up the situation and spend nearly have a million bucks? Even if a person follows the money, where does it go and why?

Why would Obamas be involved? What the heck is in it for them? Ms. Foxx is compromised already. Smollett is done for (right?). Rahm is out there condemning.

Here’s my very uneducated guess. Barack has a favorite for 2020. Maybe it’s Michelle. Maybe it’s Cory Booker. But if Smollett goes to trial, it could drag into 2020 and make Democrats in general look silly.

So it’s best if the Smollett case just quietly goes away.

But then Mayor Rahm Emanuel goes on TV and stirs everything up. I would not have expected that. What does Rahm have to gain by embarrassing DA Foxx? As you said, it’s very confusing.
