The Bible mandates equal punishment for the lying accuser to discourage false accusations. When you don’t punish the liar, it doesn’t just violate the rights of their victim. It undermines justice, because the system doesn’t discourage false accusations.
They’ve just opened the door to more fake hate crimes.
