Heard Squaw Valley is considering staying open until the 4th of July if conditions permit. Upper mountain has gotten 635 inches so far and the lower over 380 inches and a winter storm watch up from today thru Thursday. So, we probably need to find that location where it's hot and steamy to balance this out. Until then, I remain an 'anti-glacialist'. But liking the snow pack. Tahoe should be full to the brim.

Let me guess, this is caused by man-made global warming too?

Global cooling is so much worse for humanity than global warming.
We should all burn extra fossil fuels today.

Must be the result of global warming.

I heard that dam (largest earthen dam in the USA) up above Sacramento still is in danger of breaking.
They say when it gets warmer there are going to be major worries about it, again.

Tahoe started overflowing the weir and filling the Truckee two years ago.
It will be a hearty flow this year too.

According to many, this year is the wake up call and next year panic will set in.
Like I said before. When the big lake Superior and the small lakes, Michigan, Huron etc, freeze over for two or three years in a row, then its on for sure.

Some numbers from the local snow-caster. The amounts shown for the '16/17 and '10/11 seasons are for the total amount of snow they had on the same day during those seasons. You can see large differences for this date those years - note that Kirkwood had 795 inches '10/11 season compared to this years 545" - 150" less!

Heard Squaw Valley is considering staying open until the 4th of July. There are a lot of places that can stay open into the summer. The problem is there are not enough skiers in the warmer months to cover the operational costs.

I was stationed at Loring AFB, Maine in 1981, when we had a snowstorm drop enough snow overnight that the snow buried the whole first floor of the dorm I was housed in. Needless to say, we could not make it to work, got drunk and dove out the 2nd floor windows in our underwear and tunneled our ways to the 1st floor entrance...doing this repeated times; fun.

I believe July 4th is the norm for Mammoth lakes skiing given a decent year of snow. I have no doubt they could stay open longer this year but I just don’t think the crowds would be there to financially justify it. Actually I think the hikers are going to be pissed with lack of trail.
