It seems like literally everyone has fallen for a political expaination of this problem which is purely commercial on Russian side. Europe is more useful for Russia as a customer than in any other role.
My take is that some 15 years ago some NWO type with strong ties to DC establishment were looking into a European energy market and thought why won’t I have it? The judgement was made purely out of greed based on a size of the market and enormous money circulating there without deep research into the economy of the idea based on a belief that the political power would compensate this deficiency.
The economy behind the idea is getting worse by the day but too much is invested already so the political pressure to strangle more viable competitors increases.
