One mostly ignored asepct of this story is Title IX, specifically the ‘halo effect’ that scares off any criticism or scrutiny of women’s programs...as well as the chancers who operate these programs with impunity and who are even praised for non-achievements ie merely for being female.

The USC coach, in particular, was being eyed up as a mover and shaker and clearly being groomed for PC token stardom.
