LONDON Three people were killed in a shooting on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht on Monday morning, the towns mayor said. The gunman remained on the loose Monday afternoon. Dutch officials raised the threat alert to its highest level around the town of Utrecht.
Nine people were also injured in the attack, the mayor added.
We expect a terror motive. Our thoughts are with the next of kin and the witnesses of this horrific event, the towns mayor Jan van Zanen said.
On Monday afternoon, police released a photo of a man they believe is connected to the shooting, and told the public not to approach him. They identified him as Gökmen Tanis, a 37-year-old born in Turkey.
Police said earlier they were looking for a least one person who might have fled the scene by car, and didnt exclude the possibility that more people might have been involved. They appealed to the public for any photos taken in the area at the time of the incident.
In the wake of the shooting, local schools shut their doors and people were advised to stay indoors. Paramilitary police boosted security at airports and other vital infrastructure. Security was also stepped up at mosques and all trams were stopped.
The threat level has gone to 5, exclusively for the Utrecht province, anti-terror coordinator Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg said, referring to the highest level. Three trauma helicopters were initially dispatched to the scene just after the shooting, which took place around 10:45 a.m. local time.
Utrecht is home to a large student population and is located about 25 miles south of Amsterdam.
Oh, but we can’t say anything about it because then we will be called an Islamaphobe.
You let them in -— this is what you get. Radical liberalism draws them like flies.
When is the mayor going to put on a hijab and hug the survivors?
Oh wait hes male
Gee, they never saw this coming after watering down the culture and the population with muslim extremists from all parts of the middle east. Just never saw this coming after all the rapes and crime....I sure wish they had some idea this might happen. :(
Stayed in Utrecht for a couple of weeks while doing some training at Philips. It was a beautiful little town. So sad... Prayers for the victims. And get the perp!
ANYONE? ANYONE?
BUELLER??
And still the msm-—Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Did you hear something? Nah, go back to sleep.
And-————— Are you sure?
What's that on the "backlash against peaceful muslims" scale?
Can we please stop using these god-awful twits as even lead-ins to an actual story? Theyre written poorly and the stupid symbols all over make it hard to sift through.
More victims of Islamophobia. When will our politicians ban Assault Thinking?
Lots of “our” media has major shareholders or outright ownership by people whose mother tongue is arabic.
May I ask, how we know it is Moslem? Title says it but dont see it in the write-up.
Yeah, I know hes supposed to be Turkish, but then again, what Moslem has an umlaut in their name? Not as familiar with Turkish, but name doesnt seem very Moslem in any way.

They will call us names no matter what we say. The Left’s first reaction is to always use the ad hominem attack.
It’s Europe. There will be no ‘backlash’.......................
Will the prime minister put on a headscarf and act so pained as to tell the world that the worst thing in the world has happened? NO!
That only happens when a non-muz attacks muzzs.
