I’m not all that sure Nixon was coerced. He even went so far as to embrace Keynesian public spending openly, never mind moving the dollar away from the gold standard. He could have vetoed so much of what he did pass, including very strange things such as the creation of Amtrak (instead of deregulating private railroads) and so many others.
It seems to me that if good men and women had put a stop to the lunacy being mainstreamed when it began ramping up in the 60’s and 70’s, bad men and women wouldn’t have the upper hand in every facet of society now.
I suspect they were complacent, or thought the lunatics couldn’t possibly be a threat to the country, that the “fads” would all go away. But that wasn’t the plan. It was a decades-long concerted effort to take traditional America apart. While normal people were working, raising kids, etc., the lunatics were invading the schools, the courts, the government, and the churches. And here we are.
The future of this country is very uncertain, to say the least.

You’re just a better person, doggone it, you can’t help it but that’s just the way it is, so you’re naturally obligated to tell others how to live and give them what they need.

After posting this vanity I came to the realization that the Left is really simple. They call conservatives hateful and selfish but they are really, simply projecting. Conservatives give far more to charity than the Liberals. Conservatives disagree with liberal lifestyles for out of concern for individuals, their souls, society, and their country. Conservatives are both more generous and well meaning or altruistic. The Left, in the other hand are often selfish and hateful.
Their selfishness manifests through their extreme tribalism and what their tribe can gain. It manifests theough their support for socialism and extreme pro-union laws. Selling baby parts for money counts for selfishness, I would say.
Their hate manifests through censorship in the media and the internet, through calling conservatives Nazis or other derogatory names, through physical intimidation and threats, and through inhuman government policies like abortion, anti-self defense laws (gun control), anti-heterosexual speech, misandry, etc.
I think the Left’s hatred is directed at people who are nominally happy, who have embraced their natural selves and understand that life is a challenging struggle but can be mitigated through living a principled life. In short the Left is jealous of conservatives’ ability to be happy in an uncertain existence.

Leftist propaganda for gays and transgendereds takes this form and can be hard to resist if one is uninformed. After all, why not treat people with more consideration and make some changes to bathrooms to ease their unhappiness. Most kids have no understanding of the policy issues in gay marriage and the genuine harm that can be done by treating the sexually confused as normal. Opponents are not so much refuted as ignored and ridiculed.
The best approach for opponents is to know the facts and arguments well, be civil, and to urge that fairness requires that opposing arguments be heard and considered.

All of these impulses and modes of communication allow liberals to assume a standing of higher moral authority. That’s the core of it. If they can pretend to be or create the pretext that they are morally superior; they need not debate you on any sort of idea that springs forth from you or which you support. They can in fact have literally any idea they wish. Because it originates from a morally superior and of course better educated standing.

For example, if they are believers in global warming and you are a doubter or skeptic; they are the ones who assume the mantle of saving the planet; while you, even if you are right, are just interested in winning a logical debate. How could the two ever be equated? If they are right, they’ve saved the planet. If you’re right, you get to walk away with a smirk on your face.
As some other posters on this thread have said, some of this relates to the excision and negation of religion as a source of moral compass. A substitute had to be found; and a universal acceptance of behaviors previously frowned upon speaks to this attainment of a higher degree of morality and acceptance than your or my traditional religion(s) and the teachings therein. They can accept anything but you.
But I find the analysis more of an exercise in exploring minutiae for the sake of exploring minutiae. Ultimately, they want power over you. They believe they are better educated and as stated, of higher moral authority. They believe they have every right to verbally claim and physically enact superiority over you and yours. In truth; they think you are dirt. Once you understand that, the nuanced analysis becomes superfluous. They believe in tyrranical control of all who do not conform to their precepts; and given the opportunity, WILL enforce such a thing with whatever force they feel is necessary.
Easing the suffering of those who don’t have the will or perhaps the will to be normal often creates a hardship for the normal. I don’t think it’s really out of compassion for most Leftists. I think they do it is out of spite. They can’t stand conservatives and this fact makes their behavior much more understandable and predictable. People have always been compassionate but not at the expense of making everyone else miserable.

I also think much of the left turn of American Society came in the early 1900’s when the authenticity of the Bible came to be questioned by the liberal Bible “scholars”. When the Word of God began to be questioned, it influenced all of our society eventually affecting our view of morality and of absolute truth. Without a belief in the TRUTH of the Bible, the basis for Western civilization/ the American “experiment” was removed eventually leaving us with the individual’s “judgement” of morality as the basis of our society’s culture.
It took awhile, but today’s resulting relative “morality” governs academia, media, entertainment, and many mainline church heirarchies have made our nation lose its way.
