Angelou is no ex-Marine but she can be gruff. She's a poet. So the comparison is lost on me.
Young folks need to be taught courtesies but not in a way that puts them down, like her reply did. Not sure what she thought she was accomplishing by dissing the girl.

My DI had about 2", 30 pounds, and a shitload of attitude on me, and I'd seen him bounce even bigger guys off the barracks walls to drive home his point (back in the day when you could get away with it). Your example was just that twit (and I chose my vowel carefully) enforcing matriarchal elitism. Mine was enforcing discipline by applying boot to ass. A little stint in CCF usually reoriented those who were still a little slow on the uptake after that.
