William H. Macy Avoided Arrest over College Cheating Scandal Because Incriminating Emails [Trunc]

Actor William H. Macy may have avoided being charged over the college admissions scandal because the allegedly incriminating emails were sent by his wife.

Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman is among 50 people who have been accused of paying bribes to get their children into America's top colleges.

Huffman wrote an email about making a 'charitable contribution' of $15,000 to get their first daughter's SAT answers corrected, court documents show.

Although the FBI allegedly recorded Macy discussing doing the same for his second daughter, Georgia Grace, the couple ultimately decided against doing so.

In the same phone call Macy was recorded explicitly acknowledging the bribe for his first daughter, Sofia Grace.

Can you count the number of people who lost their lives on account of that one guys screw-up?

This was supposedly a movie made from a real incident, but was in Connecticut, not Minnesota....................

So does anyone know if Macy, Huffman or Laughlin are your typical Hollywood virtue signallers about the poor and downtrodden?

You know, the ones they are screwing out of their spots in these elite colleges so their over privileged and obviously not very bright kids can get in?

Don’t know about the virtue signaling, but it was so dumb of them to get involved with fraud, such as the fake test-taking or pretending the kid was recruited for some kind of athletic prowess. Just pay the big money for the university to build a new building or make a donation to the endowment fund, and skip all the fraudulent activity.

I know of a teenager who committed suicide last year over pressure to get into an Ivy League school.

“But while court papers detail a series of emails between Huffman and Singer in connection with that test, the feds don’t claim to have any similar evidence against Macy”.

Clearly I do not understand how these things work because I would think that if he was in the room with his wife and the cheater guy, and understood and agreed with what they were talking about, that would be evidence against him and he could be charged. Just because she emailed the guy instead of him??

And that’s what’s going to sink her. She took a tax deduction on that ‘charitable contribution’. Tax fraud. Federal crime.

...

I thought Hollywood liberals want to pay more taxes, not less.

I totally agree. Looks like he aged overnight. He seems like a sensible person. Hard to believe you would do something so stupid.

"I know of a teenager who committed suicide last year over pressure to get into an Ivy League school."

That is sad and it's a societal thing. His parents most likely have some responsibility in this. I don't understand it either. Unless you are going on Wall Street, or some big time law firm why does it have to be an Ivy League School? Status symbol? I went to a very small college, have a good job, make good money and work alongside co-workers (who make as much or less than me) who went to bigger name schools. In the end, college for many jobs is just the key to get in the door to a lot of careers. What matters most is what happens after you get in the door.

I’ve always heard that the status symbol is where you went to graduate school, undergrad, not so much.

Apparently they charged off these large “ donations” as charitable tax exemptions. I assume they will face the IRS as well as the FBI

I feel bad for their kids, who were unaware of these machjnations but now forever branded as cheating idiots with financially ruined tainted families

Too bad Harvard wasnt investigated

The emails seem to exonerate the kids on the SATs, the scammer wanted to delude the kids into thinking they earned those scores

The athletics scam, not so much

Seriously? I wouldn't feel bad for them at all. Let's remember if they could get into these schools on their own abilities, mummie and daddy wouldn't have to be committing crimes to get them in. My guess is that these kids are spoiled, over pampered, lazy kids. The definition of white privilege which virtue signalers in Hollywood rail against. I heard a news story that the one child (I think Huffmans) has a twitter following and was bragging about how she was going to college next year for the big party scene. Don't feel sorry for her.
