Sherlock Holmes, as played by the late, great Jeremy Brett.

I remember the time when Cannon was attacked by a Doberman. He grabbed a big rug, caught and wrapped the dog in it, and tossed the dog out the door.

Luther Gillis from “Magnum PI.” His bad imitation of Raymond Chandler in his narrations was classic.

Not a problem. This is a great thread. I’m an avid reader and I’m getting a lot of great ideas to chase. Ellery Queen was an old favorite. Older novels like “Bat Wing” were pretty good too.

Paul Drake was great but I loved Lt.Tragg. Unfortunately that putz Hamilton Burger always screwed up Tragg’s good work.

If you liked Jeremy Brett, Tom Baker (Doctor Who) did a wonderful turn as Holmes in a version of baskervilles done in the late 70’s. Being 19th century costume drama it holds up rather well.

Great choice. I listen to those old radio shows on Sirious, my favorite Johnny Dollar was played by Bob Bailey.

My first detective show was probably “Dangerous Assignment,” with Brian Donlevy.

One thing about Bill Hopper who played Paul Drake is that during W.W. II he was a navy frogman, this was before even the SEALS. He said in an interview once that his work was so dangerous and he under such great stress it caused his hair to turn prematurely white, which you can see in the old episodes.

Cannon had the moves. Did you know he was The Lone Ranger’s voice on radio. I used to sit on the floor and listen like it was almost religion. I can still remember the intro...”A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty ‘Hi-Yo Silver’!

The first few seasons of Mannix. He took some beatings. Bad writing ruined the later seasons.
