yes I enjoyed the series.
Though at times I would say to myself a Norman high sheriff wouldn’t do this - he’d say ‘too much trouble Brother Cadfael I am going to just kill everyone & burn the village down! That way we are sure to get the right one & it’s quicker! I have falconry this afternoon!!’.
Charlie Chan wasn’t really a private detective he was Hawaiian PD Lt. Then, Government Secret service agent.
Favorite PI Paul Drake of Perry Mason fame.
Also Donald Lamb Erle Stanley Gardner’s detective—sadly never used in a movie or TV show.
That’s nothing. On a episode of Blue Bloods a couple years ago, They showed two officers clearly driving a FORD Crown Victoria when they get a radio call. 10 seconds later, they pull on to the scene in a CHEVROLET Impala.
Lately I’ve become very fond of Simon Templar, “The Saint”. I enjoy reading the books by Leslie Charteris (many of which are available for free on Kindle Unlimited), and I recently discovered the TV show on a retro channel called This TV. Great entertainment.
I bought all the Banacek’s and love to watch them. Still a pretty good show today. That 1941 Packard he drove was a dream car.
Stacy Keach as Mike Hammer.
I love Rumpole too, but he wasn't a P.I. and neither was Columbo. I know, I know, lots of people on this thread have mentioned non-detectives. And Grant is an Inspector with Scotland Yard, but just a private citizen sort of "detective", when searching for the facts re Richard III. :-)
...Byomkesh Bakshy...
Well, these threads tend to expand. I really don’t follow private detective stories that much outside of Sherlock Holmes. I’ve only read The Daughter of Time and, of course, loved Alan Grant. But I’ve never read any of her other novels.
For the most part, I vote with you.
I think that you would like Tey's other books, because they're "veddy English". ;^)
You have very good taste!
Thank you. I’m making a note of it and will attempt to find that version.
I knew he was on the radio but didn’t know he was the Lone Ranger. That’s awesome thanks.
Actually, I was mistaken. Brace Beemer was the Lone Ranger. William Conrad (Cannon) was Matt Dillon on the radio Gunsmoke.
