JERSEY CITY Gov. Phil Murphy visited Jersey City Tuesday to announce that his administration is taking aim at gun-makers in an effort to lessen gun violence in New Jersey.
But will pressure on Smith & Wesson from the state of New Jersey do anything to curb street violence in places like Jersey City, where four high school students were shot dead last year? Reaction is mixed, with praise for Murphys actions from Democratic officials and more muted support from local activists.
Pamela Johnson is an anti-violence advocate who visited the Bethune community center on Martin Luther King Drive to watch Murphys announcement that he is joining the Do Not Stand Idly By campaign. The nationwide anti-gun violence initiative asks gun-makers to stop working with dealers who sell guns to straw purchasers and to widely adopt smart gun technology.

The problem is not guns but culture of a segment of a particular “protected class.”
The problem isn't the guns, the problem is the people. So long as you have young, mostly black men who think they have to be the tough guy gangsta' you will have shootings. Get to them young. Teach them business and capitalism. Teach them gun safety and that no matter how tough they think they are they are not tougher than a steel blade or a lead bullet.

This is so stupid it makes my teeth hurt.
That is not even the real intention of such laws. It is just a cover story.
The Rulers insist that the Peasants bow down before them and the subjects may not even think of forcible objection to the impositions of the Government. Certainly the Peasants cannot be allowed to have any kind of weapon.
Its not about guns. Its about control. Murphy is farming support from the Moms and Bloomberg idiots.
And that’s just for starters.
I remember when Vermont had NO MURDERS. Way back in 1967 or 1968.
S&W can certainly find friendlier places to do there work. Id love to have them in Idaho. I have a few of their firearms. We here are 2nd Amendment friendly to a fault, but I may be just a bit partial to S&W pistols from the model 3 forward.
No ... ‘Rat tyranny just promotes crime.
Freedom will reduce crime.
that's always a sure sign of a bad neighborhood.
One might note that Vermonts population is 94.7% Caucasian...
But that would be racist, or something.
Definitely, criminals are really careful about following gun laws.
No, but it will no doubt make criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens.
As a sixty-three year resident of New Jersey, let me assure you that AlaskaEric is not exaggerating in the least bit. If anything, he might be understating the case. If you havent experienced N.J. you just cannot conceive of their paranoid cluelessness.
Of course not, but that’s not the point of it.
Taking the means of self defense from people almost guarantees MORE violence.
