I guess since these schools take federal money...that makes this a crime. I wonder if they were 100% private would it be illegal?

Elite schools have always had a kind of affirmative action for those related to big donors or the politically connected. What went on here looks like plain old fraud and stupidity.

Laughlin may not be guilty. Depends on how she’s faired over the years.
Huffman is guilty - no question. She’s married to the drunk in Shameless. He’s not a bad actor, but the two of them have been liberal shriekers over the years.
Laughlin, not so much. She was a 10+ in her day.
Imagine being a teen, admitted to a top university, only to discover that your mom bribed people to get you in there. And now what she did is all over the news.

He went to Yale, lead the Ivy League in scoring (basketball). Got a degree. Remains very not very bright.
Colleges are a cesspool in so many ways.
