We all know all about Windows 10s most controversial feature, and Microsoft has now confirmed it has struck again
Picked up by the ever-excellent AskWoody, the latest update for Windows 10 (patch KB4482887) has crippled gaming performance on the platform across both Nvidia and AMD GPUs. Microsoft has now confirmed the problem and issued an official warning about the update.
After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games (eg: Destiny 2), explained Microsoft, with the company saying it is working on a fix.
Needless to say, users are furious. Woody Leonhard highlights two threads on Reddit in particular (1,2).
Leonhard himself, also warns: Is the problem confined to games? Highly unlikely, in my experience. Its just that gamers notice bugs sooner than most of us.

My last Win 10 update crashed my computer and lost all hard drive files - not good!
And that’s the truth too... Every time I increased hardware speed MS filled that void with more UNNEEDED bloat slowing it right back down again. My wife’s new laptop with Win 10 runs as slow as my 286 used to run.
A Windows upgrade crashed my Photoshop Elements 15 and I still havent been able to get it working.
Shouldn't me much a problem, since hardly anyone uses either of those GPUs...
...(snigger).
Another vote for disabling Windows updates and installing them at your leisure (after others have been your canaries in a coal mine) with WSUS Offline.
Since I don't play games on my PC, I assume this won't affect me?
Definitely need subtitles, too many mumbling actors and actresses these days. Amazon was genius to put subtitles on its movies, At least the ones I have seen. I suppose Netflix does the same but have never used it for streaming movies. Aside from Amazon streaming....I also use VLC and add subtitles (easy to do w VLC) snagged from subtitle sites.
If I die during a guild raid, I’m gonna sue.
I quit buying new Microsoft computers and started buying used Apples. Life is much easier on the computer now.
Something from the 90s.
Somewhere around here I’ve still got the magazine with these songs...
Nine-tenths of a gig,
Biggest ever seen,
Gosh, this program’s big— MS Word 15!
Comes on ten CDs,
And requires—damn!
Word is fine, but jeez—
60 megs of RAM?!
Oh! Microsoft, Microsoft,
Bloatware all the way!
I’ve sat here installing Word
Since breakfast yesterday!
Oh! Microsoft, Microsoft,
Moderation, please.
Guess you hadn’t noticed:
Four-gig drives don’t grow on trees!
I can imagine how they would do with those.
Much of that equipment runs on some version of Windows. Probably CE.
WE are their quality control testers. The can turn out crap that people would never buy, so they give the crap away and our job is to find all the bugs.
That’s pretty good. :) You probably remember and made note of this too... We finally started to get a handle on in and get a slight boost ahead of MS in hardware speed when they finally realized that BUSS speeds were holding back and retarding the speed capabilities of processors and increased BUSS speeds.
I was elated to see speed finally increasing and beating out the MS bloat and it was fantastic for a change. Well it didn’t take them long to go throw a wrench in the works and take even this breakthrough advantage away and slow it right back down again. For some reason all these years MS has had the misconception that increased speeds were designed just for them and never for the user who actually owned the machine.
In this way users have never actually owned the machine they paid good money for outright... MS has always arrogantly self appointed themselves stewards and proxy owners/managers over every box they were loaded on. It’s always been like buying a new pickup truck but having the maker of that truck fully dictate where you can haul stuff from and to, and what you can and cannot haul.
That truck never does actually belong to the person who paid good money for it. You only made a onetime rental payment and the manufacturer can change the rental agreement at will throughout the life of that vehicle forever. For decades now this greedy arrogance is the “very well earned” source of my hatred for MS. They are playing everyone for a fool and we are ignorant enough to let them so they keep doing it. :(
Here’s the funny thing... Everything in your list that does now use firmware or software is using linux or related software. The manufacturers of these smart machines and appliances were smart enough to stay away from MS coding altogether yet we still keep abusing ourselves. Pretty bad when a wash machine, microwave oven, or dishwasher is smarter than we are. lol
I thought they mumbled too before I got hearing aids.
Oh WOW, that’s perfect! Notice which version of Windows has the best tool. That’s where I am and I ain’t moving.
MSFT can go jump in the lake.
Maybe, maybe not.
