Lol, reading your post, I would say your a Union guy and from northern US.
In Texas, it’s way over 100 degrees in the summer. I will bet you 100 you can’t drive around on a 109 degree day in Central Texas and find one white guy (I’m white by the way) swinging a large sledge hammer. If you see it, take a picture of it. You will see hundreds of Mexican workers out on sites regardless of heat and sun setting forms and pouring concrete. Without em, we’re dead in the water.
Also, yes, there are what you call “border jumpers”... .lol, we call em wets or wet backs. I include it in my contracts with subs that that they swear their workers are all legal and that they have verified that they are. All my friends do the same.
Now, “skilled” workers like electricians and plumbers and steel and HVAC guys are mostly white down here but not all of them. And, you will find them working hard on hot and cold days as well.
But, the HARD, NASTY dirty construction work out in the sun is over 90% Mexican and most of us respect their work ethic as they ain’t afraid of work no matter how hard or how hot.
