AOC Argues Robots Taking Over Jobs Will Give People More Free Time for Creativity
MAGA Voter ^ | March 10, 2019

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now pushing the idea of automation, and being more excited about the idea of automation taking over American workforce.

Fast Company reported that robots have put half a million people out of work in the United States, and researchers estimate that bots could take 800 million jobs by 2030. But New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that widespread automation is an exciting proposition–as long as some kind of government safety net is in place to equitably help the people who are displaced.

Appearing at the SXSW conference Saturday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said people should be excited by the prospect of robots taking their jobs because it will afford them more time to pursue their creative passions.

Ocasio-Cortez speculated fears over automation stem from a lack of financial safety net and economic uncertainty. “We should not be haunted by the specter of being automated out of work,” the self-avowed democrat-socialist said, according to Fast Company. “We should not feel nervous about the tollbooth collector not having to collect tolls. We should be excited by that. But the reason we’re not excited about it is because we live in a society where if you don’t have a job, you are left to die.”

The freshman congresswoman floated a proposal by billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates to tax robots at 90 percent to make up workers’ lost income from automation. “Whether it’s a tax rate, whether it’s distributing wealth that’s created by automation – if we approach solutions to our systems and start entertaining ideas like that, then we should be excited about automation because of what it could potentially mean,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez then mused that with adequate policies in place, introducing more robots into the workforce could allow society more time to dabble in art and science, and actually increase the pace of innovation, freeing up “more time enjoying the world we live in.”

“Not all creativity needs to be bonded by wage,” she said to loud applause.

As Ocasio-Cortez alluded to in her remarks, the vast majority of Americans are opposed to robots replacing them in certain work settings.

Breitbart News’ John Binder reported:

About 85 percent of Americans said they support the federal government putting restrictions on the types of jobs that employers can automate, like dirty and dangerous jobs, supporting an economic nationalist agenda when it comes to the issue, Pew Research polling has found.

Nearly 60 percent of Americans said the federal government should place limits on the number of jobs in which a business can replace a U.S. worker with a machine. About 70 percent of the country’s working class, those with or without a high school degree, agree that the mass displacement of American workers through automation should be stopped with regulation by the federal government.

Those benefitting from increased legal immigration levels and massive job automation are corporate executives, Wall Street, real estate investors, big business, and multinational conglomerates that would enjoy a flooded labor market with reduced wages, more workers, fewer labor costs, added residents who need housing, and additional consumers to buy their products.

The mass importation of legal immigrants — mostly due to President George H.W. Bush’s Immigration Act of 1990, which expanded legal immigration levels — diminishes job opportunities for the roughly four million young American graduates who enter the workforce every year wanting good-paying jobs.

In the last decade alone, the U.S. admitted ten million legal immigrants, forcing American workers to compete against a growing population of low-wage foreign workers. Meanwhile, if legal immigration continues, there will be 69 million foreign-born residents living in the U.S. by 2060. This would represent an unprecedented electoral gain for the Left, as Democrats win about 90 percent of congressional districts where the foreign-born population exceeds the national average.

I’ve tried to imagine her rationale and I think it’s that, as suggested by Bill Gates, that we tax things provided by robots at 90% then the government recycles the tax and hands it out as it sees fit to the no longer employed.

So basically we’ll be like a dog waiting to be given it’s dinner by the oh so merciful government politicians and bureaucrats.

I don’t understand the stupidity of AOC.

I like to work. I am over 60 years of age working in technology and putting in 70+ hours a week. It is my contribution to society. But, I’ve also helped to create a fair number of jobs over the past few decades, and thus have helped people better themselves. Not all of them became millionaires but became better off than when they started...what’s wrong with that???

She’s right. Folks will be creatively looking for ways to make ends meet. A lot of it criminal. But winning type people will be creating, programming and maintaining robots.

Now she’s stealing Nasty Nan’s schtick. Nan was the first one to convince everyone to quit their jobS and use the time to learn to play the guitar, write poetry or paint pictures of bowls of fruit. PLAGIARIST!

This is the same argument Obama’s acolytes used a decade ago when unemployment started going up. They argued that being unemployed was actually better for you.

But, but, but ... how are all the nonemployed going to be able to be creative unless they are given gift cards from Michael’s and Hobby Hobby?

The woman’s a total ideologue without an original thought in her head and insufficient intelligence to even pass off her second-hand pabulum in a credible manner, but automation, robotics and artificial intelligence do pose an almost existential threat to employment in the not so distant future. It has to be dealt with somehow.

AOC is the complete product of indoctrination from the romper room until college completion.

They learn only marxism. They really KNOW very little about life and reality.

I am over 60 and still working. In the past I created several small businesses and trained people in their skills so that they could succeed.

I believer it is incumbent upon those whom God gifted with creativity and intellectual capacity to create jobs for others.

This constant blab, blab, blab about handouts for this or that is ridiculous. If these blabbing politicians had any real interest in helping people they would use whatever talents they may have to actually develop the talents of others not just talk about imaginary worlds.
