Okay, I misunderstood this line in the comments section:

They only gave him one round of the childhood shot and a booster shot used to prevent/treat tetanus in someone not properly vaccinated.

I see now that both shots were given in the hospital (?).

But, the point is that, in the old days, parents brought their children to the hospital for a tetanus shot after they were injured - right? You weren't given a series of tetanus shots as an infant long before you were ever injured - correct?

Today, children are expected to receive a schedule of 5 tetanus shots (that also include pertussis and diphtheria) beginning as newborn babies:

1st shot - Age 2 months
2nd shot - Age 4 months
3rd shot - Age 6 months
4th shot - Age 15-18 months
5th shot - Age 4-6 years

The commenters on that article are complaining that the child didn't receive that tetanus shot schedule of 5 shots before he was 5 years old.

By the way, I don't think doctors ever gave me a tetanus shot, even though I had cuts requiring stitches many times as a child. (I'm not anti-vax, by the way, just anti-mandatory-vax.)

I banged myself up so many times as a child that I do not know that I got a tetanus shot every time I got stitches. It might have just seemed like it. I don't remember getting any tetanus boosters when I was a kid other than when I had had some type of incident. Oh, and I am anti-mandatory-vax as well. Which I had to repeat over and over in a similar thread last month.

We have legislation in Washington State that is currently going through the legislature that will result in mandatory vaccinations and will be signed by our insane governor and upheld by our all liberal State Supreme Court.

The problem here is that the anti-vaxers have been responsible for so much misleading, dangerous and outright false information being spread that they have scared many responsible parents from getting their kids any vaccinations. One should be able to make a risk assessment on individual shots. Until the huge illegal immigration migration into this country most of the illnesses that these inoculations are meant to protect against had been eliminated so not wanting to expose your children to the known risks of inoculations was reasonable.

We know a number of families who home-school and have not had their children inoculated. In most cases they believe in eating only “all natural organic” foods, no candy, and a many home remedies for illnesses. I don't have a problem with this, except that some of them take it to screwball levels and the parents in some cases have passed on extreme paranoia about a number of issues to their older children especially.

I know a 19 year old girl who wanted to join the military, but she is afraid to because she is afraid of getting inoculated. I have known boys who wanted to become firefighters or police but are afraid to because they are afraid of getting inoculated.

One odd thing about the families that I know is that the families who are like this did not vote for President Trump as another poster alluded to in this thread. They were mostly Ted Cruz fans who could not accept that he had lost. So they mostly didn't bother to vote at all. The weirdest thing is that they are mostly are parents who have been heavy pot smokers and believe strongly that this is congruent with being “all natural” and a true conservative. It seems like there is a strange disharmony in some people's thought process related to heavy pot smoking that results in a distorted paranoia about anything related to large institutions. Not that this is completely unfounded in many cases but there is a strange disharmony in the thought process in many long term potheads.
