This is the loneliest road in America

Where the state of Nevada folds in half—from the elbow on its western arm at Lake Tahoe across to its Utah border—you’ll find the most direct route across the state. It crosses several communities, a handful of mountain ranges, a national park, and one reservoir, where bobcats, foxes, and wild horses roam free. There’s life, yes, but not a familiar way of life for many. It’s a place where the lines between John Wayne Westerns and everyday life blur, where ghost towns bleed into living ones. This is Route 50, the Loneliest Road in America.

There’s some side streets on Staten Island where you can go five minutes without a car passing by :)

And we’re the QUIET borough!

I have been ALL OVER Manhattan, Brooklyn and even parts of Queens at ALL HOURS, and there is never ever any real peace.

You need to go to PA for that, and even then it has to be really late, or early, depending on how you look at it.

Costco gas is top tier? Hmmm guess I’ll google that. But where I live Exxon is the same price as traveling into the other County which is more expensive, and buying Costco gas but if I’m down there and it’s Top tier I might top off.

I’ve crossed highway 50 three times - once in my pick-up, once in my car, and once on my Road King. The bike was the most fun. Any of you who have been over it, did you stop to take pictures of the Shoe Tree?

I’ve driven the ALCAN twice in the early 80s.. Wasn’t even totally paved at the time... Being tight on $$ I pulled over to sleep on the side of the road in my vehicle one night.. So dark I couldn’t sleep.. No other vehicles for hours...

Craziest thing I’ve ever seen was on the trail (not a road!) leading up to Phillips Lake and Upper Phillips Lake. Some old man drove his Ford F350 4x4 AND A 30 FOOT FIFTH WHEEL almost ten miles up a horse path from the end of route 411 before he got stuck.

That rig was up there a couple years before someone hauled it out.

Sad to say the man died of exposure.

If you’re looking for boring I-71 from Columbus to Cincy is about as dull as it gets.

Canadian customs sucks they are a mean petty bunch or at least they were then - long hair, beards not recommended.fo a trouble free crossing.

I guess they had developed a draft dodger immune response.

But if you feel the need for speed..
Take 318 from Ely NV in May or September south to Las Vegas. 90 miles and you can go as fast as your car will go.
Silver State Classic Challenge.

“Is there really any road or highway left in the US where you would be in serious trouble if your car and cell phone died?”

If your car and phone die on S. Ashland Ave. in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, you could potentially find yourself in a little bit of trouble.

“The greedy needy folks.”

Yeah, I remember last year when Oroville Dam had its potentially catistrophic failure Jerry The Fairy, passed it of by saying in other words “$hit happens,” while failing to tell the citizens that the government was dragging its feet about making known necessary repairs.

Not “LOL!” I told Mrs. rktman a few places that if we needed medical, we would be SOL! Came up the east side of NV from Vegas to Ely and west on 50. Very isolated in many areas. But beautiful to us in its starkness.
