I watched it in the dark by myself when it was aired in 1975. I loved horror movies and was not easy to scare. The part with the doll scared the crap out of me. I even forget the other 2 parts. I think the doll was the third part.

I've watched the ending of the third part six or seven times, clapping my hands over Karen, who has just invited her overbearing mother over ("I'll be waiting"), squatting in her bathrobe, rhythmically stabbing that butcher knife into the floor and grinning just like that doll - teeth and all.

I understand she loved that kind of work and it was her idea to end the episode that way. A damn good creative actress with a great set of legs.

I remember that! It advanced the theory that the reason Lizzie Borden’s clothes had no signs of blood on them (even though the two bloody hatchet murders were hours apart but Lizzie was in the same dress all day) was that she got completely naked to do the murders, washed the blood off of her bare skin and then put the same clothes back on. While I’m sure they used a body double, the image of Elizabeth Montgomery’s silhouette climbing the stairs completely nude with an axe in her hand was salacious enough to keep me fantasizing for months. Can you imagine the way it would be presented these days?

Yes, based on former actor Tom Tyron’s novel. It was the heyday of feminism and this story was all about attractive but creepy women, led by a witch-like Bette Davis, running the show, getting wives to humiliate and betray their husbands in public (and getting their teen-aged daughters to go along with it.) Kind of silly with Tyron neglecting to close any of the open doors, leaving the reader (or in this case, the watchers) wondering out loud ‘why doesn’t he just...?’

Tom Tryon’s “The Other” was one of the best novels in that genre I have ever read.

“I have always loved the Movie of the Week theme music, brings back such fond memories of childhood”

Yep, another classic movie of the week was 1971’s “Dual” staring Dennis Weaver directed by a very young Steven Spielberg. Weaver is a travelling Salesman being harrassed / hunted down in his car out on the open road by a big rig. The driver of the big rig is never shown through out the movie.
