Unfortunately the House crap is more sinister than Kabuki. They know they can’t impeach him and they also know he won’t be indicted, so the only play they have is to beat Trump up so badly in the media and public opinion that he will lose in 2020 and they can get their power back. Everything would be rolled-back to Obama days although the Scotus and federal judges will be there to haunt them for decades to come.
Point is, the hearings won’t accomplish anything in an official investigative sense, but they do have the potential to be disruptive and influence swing voters in 2020. That’s why I hope “opening the door” means what I think it does, so that releasing information that will be damaging to the Dems will be seen as a response to their own questions/attack, not an attempt to “obstruct”.
