This whole thing strikes me as a massive violation of the Fourth Amendment, which requires “probable cause” before government can demand to search your home or business.

Exactly what the Presidents response should be.

Anyone asked to testify should demand that they be served with a court-issued warrant declaring that there is evidence of “probable cause” for a specific crime, which specifies what that evidence is, and which identifies the specific information or records they are being asked to provide.
