Nancy Pelosi: The Rolling Stone Interview

Pelosi is at the height of her power, having recaptured the House, dispatched an attempted coup of her leadership, and faced down the president in a very public, extremely high-stakes fight. Her approval rating has risen eight points since November, and now sits higher than it has been in more than a decade.

RS: So what do you think your chief purpose is now, in this era of divided government?

The wisdom of our founders was that we would have co-equal branches of government. I think in a large sense, my responsibility now — and it seems to be having an impact — is to impress upon the other branches of government, the executive and the judiciary, the role of the legislative branch. That means to not only pass laws — the Constitution gives us the power of the purse, it gives us the responsibility for oversight, and we will exercise that power. And if we don’t, we would be delinquent in our duties. As speaker of the House, I see my responsibility to honor the Constitution — separation of powers as a co-equal branch of government.

RS: Would you say respect for the concept of co-equal branches of government has been in decline in the past decade or two?

Mostly since this president. President Obama recognized the role of Congress. Right now, we see some Republicans — [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell for one — complicit in this president usurping the power of the Congress by saying, “If he doesn’t sign it, we won’t pass it.” Well, that’s not the way the balance works. We put forth legislation for the good of the people, and we send it to the president. If he doesn’t sign, you try to override it.

The woman is a gibbering dementia patient— publicly diagnosed.

Perfect that Trump lobbied for her “leadership”. And uh, Rolling Stoned is NOT a major outlet for an interview. A very much failed and FAKE.

You’ll know if someone thinks it’s worthwhile if huffpo “picks up” the interview and re-packages it.

She is— at the least... the mob. And DiFi already shut down the “Cohen” circus in the House last week— as “he’s not worthy of trust in any testimony”. She is evil, but not demented like Nancy D’Alessandro!!

In 2017, Pelosi revealed a shady tried-and-true Democrat demonization tactic called the “wrap-up smear.”

Pelosi wants to keep the borders open. She is working hard to get as many as she can to get into our country.

The very survival of the Democrap party depends on open borders.

In 2016 Nancy brought a Congressional delegation to Mexico City to meet with Mexican dignitaries. Pelosi told the Mexican president and his entourage: “We come here as a bipartisan and large delegation to express our respect for the people of Mexico and the country of Mexico; to acknowledge our shared border and our shared values and to learn more about how we can work together for the bright future for not only our two countries but for our hemisphere.”

Pelosi later said the Congressional delegation had a busy time in Mexico City. “We heard a sermon on the importance of workers in Mexico, a view we share. We’ve met with members of the American Chamber of Commerce. We had a very beneficial meeting with Director General Zapata on the subject of the economy and on the subject of TPP (trade pact) especially.

"And then we had a glorious meeting, a really very thorough exchange of subjects and views – again about our shared values and our shared border – with the President [of Mexico]......with Members of the Federal Deputies – Mexican Federal Deputies – and Senators. And in the evening we had a dinner meeting with the Mexican Foreign Minister,” Pelosi said.

SCHADENFREUD Beto sucked-up bigtime for latino votes....but still lost his Texas race against Cruz.

Hmm. I'll need to read it, I've not perused RS in awhile. Mrs WBill still gets it, it's an artifact from a previous life.

Usually I can read everything that's worthwhile in about 15 minutes. It's good to take the temperature of the liberal Democrat party. For instance, I could tell that there was serious infighting around 2014-15... most of the articles were arguing about whether Obama was too conservative, or just not liberal enough.

Dems wound up with Hillary, who is about the only person unlikeable enough for Trump to beat in 2016, and kicked Sanders, who would have been the "lovable old grandpa" and cleaned DJT's clock, to the curb.

Will be interesting to see if the infighting continues, or if the entire establishment has lurched leftwards. Or, something in-between.
