Just a vanity entry about spam calls. I receive these calls once or twice each day from a different phone number and the phone refers to it coming from SSRN. I've searched and searched but cannot come up with a site or near anything that has the initials SSRN. I know there are better sleuths here than I. I do have a phone that blocks numbers and is has about 200 entries in it. Here are those SSRN numbers. **********************************

I suspect SSRN is just an alias to make you curious enough to answer.
It’s a spoof’ed number. By answering them, you are inviting more. If they come on the cell phone, block them.
You know those prerecorded 3 musical tones denoting a disconnected number?
You can download those from the internet, upload them to the very beginning of your “leave me a message”-message.
And then these marketing firm-hired robots that each day mindlessly fan out across earth, toruturing us all while searching for phone numbers really connected to humans will hear those 3 tones:
They’ll immediately hang up and move on, as mindlessly as before.
And ematiated and blinking in the sudden sunlight you will be freed from the darkness of Phone Prison.

SSRN is just the four letters that the spammer chose to put in as an identifier for a spam call. Spammers are using software programs that allow them to put in whatever name or letters they want to put in or area code and number. I get a lot of spam calls that have random names and local area codes and numbers if I answer there callers from California or New York offering business loans. I spent 20 yrs in the wireless phone industry during the George W Bush yrs the Do Not Call List worked very well. After Obama took office and appointed a fool named Jeh Johnson the Do Not Called List immediately took a dump and things keep getting worse. I’m Hoping the Trump administration will soon get a hold on this. Millions of dollars are made off fraudulent calling. I suspect that during the Obama yrs someone was collecting secret Cash.
I don’t answer any calls unless the number is recognizable and like I said the phone blocks any repeat call from an unrecognizable number.
Our house phone when I was a kid was 623-6966. The local skating rink’s number was 622-6966.
It was chaos.
I think I’ve seen 4 or more different internet hits on SSRN. But I made this entry/request because the “SSRN” is getting used over and over and these unique phone numbers. <:(((
That sounds great. Unfortunately 99% of spam calls are dialed by computer and these tones will by nothing for those. When they get a live voice answer the call is then picked up by a live con artist to handle business.

Spam calls are first handled by a computer:
On a pickup, after a very brief time they are THEN handed to a human, who has that HotBigBoobs vacation rental, or a Billon dollar deal from deposed General Mombutu, with your banking info Service Fee amounting to only 3 million dollars, your highest discretion strictly required.
If the 3 tones are the very first thing upon pickup, the computer dumps the call and moves on, since the computer is fooled into thinking it has reached a disconnected number.
If they are calling on your mobile phone, I would suggest downloading an app called “Should I Answer”. When a call comes in, it will check against a database of numbers that have been crowd sourced as either “spam” or reliable number. You can have the settings configured to silently ignore any number that has been identified as spam by other users of the app. I get 20 calls a week, and about 15 of them get flagged as spam before I even see the call.

To me it appears to be a data phishing organization. I wouldn’t answer the phone for them. We let the little robot handle all of our calls the past twenty, or so years just because of these sorts.
