There are significant stakes for most of the participants at this week’s NFL scouting combine. For Elijah Holyfield, the former Georgia running back and son of boxing great Evander Holyfield, stakes are higher than most. Holyfield left Georgia after his 2018 junior season that saw him tally 1,018 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 6.4 yards per carry.

I know, years ago a co-worker’s son who was a college standout defensive player had tryouts with several NFL teams but just didn’t have the flashing speed
Jerry Rice never ran below 4:55 in the 40 but look at his career. Rice doesn’t think much of the 40 times. Who am I to argue.

I think it was Willie Gault (or Cliff Branch) who was fast as greased lightening but couldn’t catch a cold. Fred Belitnekoff had to teach him to SLOW DOWN so he could see the ball clearly enough to catch it.
Belitnekoff was considered slow but was sure footed and could catch even bad wobbly passes. Fred is in both the college and NFL Hall of Fame.
Marcus Allen wasn’t the fastest running back in the NFL. He had the uncanny ability to not let would be tacklers get a solid shot at him. His was a scrambling, weaving style of running. He was also a punishing blocker and enjoyed laying a pass rusher on the ground.
Marcus is another non-speedster in the HOF.
Brock Lesnar ran a 4.7, and he was 285 lbs.

Yup. There are so many great players out there that are just as good as Christian and Rex but they don’t have that “upside”. If McCaffrey’s dad was not an ex player we would never have even gotten drafted...certainly not recruited by the NCAA. Zach Zenner is being royally screwed... it’s criminal. The guy had 3 straight 2,000 yard rushing seasons and was not drafted. No one has ever done that in college football! Ryan Nall is buried on the Bears practice squad after leading all rushers in the 2018 preseason. Practice squad??? What the H?
Define speed. White guys dominate in the 10 and 20 yard dash. Whites dominate in agility drills like the 3 cone. That’s why Belichek loves white receivers...and wins super bowls with them. But for some reason the 40 is the be all end all.
They certainly can play cornerback. Jason Sehorn handled it quite well. Cirnerback play in the NFL SUCKS! Whites are forbidden to play it...caste out of these positions at the collegiate level and it causes them not even to go out for the position. Julian Edelman played it in a few games. Colin Jones has. It is complete bs that they cannot play corner. Check out the freshman at Iowa... he’s pretty good. Had a couple picks in his first game.
Blacks are allowed to have “slow “ 40s. Black privilege.
The combine is useless, it doesn’t show how a guy plays football.

I can only imagine the havoc a white-dominated squad could wreak on the entire NFL. Discipline and game smarts triumph over raw “athleticism.”
And yes, there would be a place on this team for contemporary Paul Warfields or Larry Littles.
Well...the Patriots offense has pretty much proved that out the past 10 years. No team is allowed to be more than 40 percent black or they are deemed racist....even though black men are 6 percent of the population! But it the scam starts much earlier...college recruiters who have quotas to fill. Whites need not apply. Jordy Nelson was a walk on. JJ Watt was not recruited!!!! The best defensive player in history! Case closed.
Sports is a one of the few places left where merit is rewarded. No team wants to keep their best players off the field. If a white guy or black guy can't make it, he's not put on the field. Race is a non issue.
Bull. Just is not true. You are pretty naive. The road is much harder if not impossible for most white players. I gave plenty of examples on this thread and there are cointless more. It starts long before the NFL level. It is systemic prejudice. Black high school players get far more attention from recruiters and are recruited to top schools. The top high school running back in Indiana has yet to receive an offer from any colleges...and the stats aren’t even close while black running backs in his state are.
And you wear race on your sleeve. This is bunk. I said the NFL has made it easier for the offense. There is opportunity for role players in the NFL. Your examples prove that. But, overall it is based on merit. Coaches don’t look for color, just numbers and how they fit into their system.
If the player in Ind is good enough he will make it. End of story.

You failed to provided evidence. You pointed out white players that made it. Thru merit. Tebow is a example of a white player who was amazing in college but didn’t have the arm and throwing movement to make it. Tons of black players fail to make it as well. It only matters how you perform on the field. One can be great before the pros and not do well there.

Zach Zenner has ridden the bench for the Lions for 4 straight years after first posting 3 straight 2,000 yards and averaging 6 yards per carry (never happened in college football), then going UNDRAFTED, then he outperfomed every running back not only on the Lions, but in the entire league in the preseason. No bias? He wasn’t even the third backup! Please tell me ONE bkack running back who had stats even close to hus who was treated like garbage. Jordy Nelson couldn’t get on the field....had to walk on. Couldn’t get a break on the Packers until every single black “better” got hurt. He wasted a few great years riding the bench. Danny Amendola, not drafted. Wes Welker, no one wanted him. Peyton Hillis, driven oit of the league for daring to ask for a better contract every black thousand yard rusher gets. Danny Woodhead... fastest running back and maybe player in his draft class. Undrafted. Same with Chris Hogan. Yes, these guys made it, but, the road was hell compared to black players who, with the same skillset would have been highly sought after recruits, drafted in the first or second rounds, given immediate playing time. Nothing to see here.
Not sure why that is mostly the case now either.
