A driver on Interstate Highway 580 in the East Bay managed to rack up about $1,000 in traffic fines Monday afternoon with two speeding tickets in 11 minutes, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The CHP first stopped the driver of a 2014 Nissan Altima at 12:30 p.m. for traveling 90-plus mph on westbound Highway 580 near Grant Line Road and the Altamont Pass, according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn.
The same car was pulled over by a different officer 11 minutes later near Greenville Road in Livermore for going 103 mph, Hahn said.
The CHP tells drivers to slow down after handing out speeding tickets -- not to speed up, Hahn said.
The tickets probably cost the driver $400 to $500 apiece.

I thought that anything over 100 MPH would get you arrested.
I normally drive 5 mph over the speed limit, and that is evidently too slow for the average driver.
My first assumption is that this was a teenage boy all revved up and with a need to speed.
Maybe, maybe not. I used to have an Auntie who was in her 70’s, and was a speed demon. She loved it. I think she had a Chevrolet. A big boat of a car. We kids used to buckle up before she did. She rarely had any accidents, and sort of considered minor collisions as par for the course. “Oh well!”
First off, in my locale if you are going 100mph, they don’t just give you a ticket, they haul you off to jail.
Second, I am reminded of a comedy routine (don’t remember the comedian’s name) about speeding.
Cop says, why were you speeding. Guy says, Because I had the pedal to the floor. That pedal is attached to the engine and the further you push it, the faster the engine goes. And this steering wheel, if you turn it , it makes the car turn.

I travel on I-5 back and forth to Ventura all the time. Set my cruise to usually 6-7 miles over 65. I get zoomed by. Had a car pass me this weekend that I knew was going over 100.
That’s a bad day.
Couple months ago, coming back from Knoxville, I was following my rule... no more than 7 mph over(for the most part) the speed limit.
Guy ahead of me was following the same rule, so I pretty much stayed behind him.
We’re both in the left lane passing a slowpoke when a car comes up on us fast. We both get to the right and then the car just flies by us...
and that’s when I saw the blue lights in the trees(to the left).
He got pulled over about 2 miles down the road.
As I passed him, I thought... better you than me.
I have a lead foot, but my last ticket was around 2004.
That’s one of those “minor crimes” in Cali that they let go unpunished, only a fine.

A self-inflicted one that can be easily avoided......trust me I KNOW.
I actually witnessed a similar thing on I-10 between San Antonio and Houston back in the 90s. Dude flew past me-got caught by Tx DPS. A few minutes later, he flew past me again. Saw him stopped by another DPS a few miles up. This was back when the speed limit was an idiotic 55 MPH.
I’ve got a need for speed!
