Meh, it was pretty insane there, anyway, but my great fear is that theyll pull that with FreeRepublic, some day.
You would have hated Usenet. It was unmonitored and uncensored. For people who’d like to speak their minds without worrying about being banned, Usenet was great.
The alt.clinton.whitewater forum was a player in the Whitewater scandal’s unfolding. It was a wonderful time.
But not for the thin-skinned or faint-hearted, for sure.
I mean my fear is some day big companies offering wireless access will claim that FR is daaaaaangerous, and will block wireless access to FR.
Early on, I browsed around there for a long time but didn’t take part. I know exactly what you mean.
Of course, if I had said anything, I would like have had the TL/DR thing fired at me!
See... now true to my username and as a historian I am open and objective to almost all sources of ideology with no mental blocks as long as they are not being HYPOCRITICAL. I figure I am intelligent enough to pick out the truth from all points of view no matter the source. I have been a member of many sites that were completely open to all thought and input with no “club” labels applied as to what the content was supposed to be contained and limited to.
There were no “Blasphemous or Heretical” judgements and they were true open and free speech. And what I noticed was in an open format like this, the truth and logic always prevail despite the differing sources. And believe it or not, they actually policed themselves pretty well because there were no predetermined restrictions of content or ideology rules. Personally I think opposing political views being debated in the same forum and community is VERY productive because the truth prevails in the end.
The way I look at it is if they are not directly harming someone everyone one has the individual right to feel as they like and should not be afraid or intimidated from expressing how they feel. I don’t think they should be suppressed just because they feel different than how others are telling them they “should feel”.
I had no problem with it, it was open free speech and self policed as the internet was meant to be. Don’t like it, don’t go there. :)
Well, you have the right enemies at least!
This is brilliant idea. Got home from work (couldn’t install it due to firewall/proxy at work) and loaded it up. Flat out a great extension..
Neat idea. I installed on one browser and made comments at CNN articles, Drudge links, even at the front page of drudge, and in One America News articles.
