Reading through the list of Oscar winners, I realize that I have not watched a single one of these movies. Not one. Not only not the winners, but none of the nominees. Am I alone in this?
It was free on either Netflix or Amazon and that is how hubby and I watched it. We only did watch it because there was nothing else to watch. We both agree that it was worth what we paid for it.
I agree, perhaps it is because I am in old fogey territory age-wise.
However, I have watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon and I would recommend it. It is a series. I had read some place that it was loosely based on the early career of Joan Rivers. So, I said to hubby, if that is correct, maybe it will actually be funny. It is and the story is interesting, the writing is sharp and the settings and clothes (early 1960) is really well done. I recommend it, however, with this one caveat: They do use the "F" word on this show. Sigh. Can't get away from that word; but, the rest of the show is great.
I would suggest “April 9th” on amazon prime... It’s a danish movie with sub-titles about a bicyle company and a motorcycle platoon sent to the border to delay the german invasion on April 9th, 1940. It is one of the best “war” movies I’ve ever seen. Historically accurate with authentic vehicles and equipment. Denmarks part in WW2 was short, as the german army that had defeated poland turned to Denmark and Norway next. A german reconnassance group versus a danish holding group. One of the best small unit action depictions ever as “green” danes engage veteran germans. Watch it, and watch the interviews after the movie ends.
Haven’t been to a theater in a few years.
Nope.
I think the last movie I saw was Nemo2 with a 6 year old.
I’m not familar with the vast majority of the movies nominated for an Oscar.
I have no idea who most of those people are. If it weren’t for 40000000 cable channels most of those vacuous people would need real jobs.
I quit watching years ago.
Am I Alone In Having NOT Watched Any Oscar Movies?
90% OF WHAT COMES OUT OF HOLLYWOOD IS PURE GARBAGE.
The last movie I paid to see was “Miracle” about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. That was about 15 years ago. Much of pop culture, brainwashing education and the vast majority of media are three evils in our society.
I haven’t seen any of them, but I will check some of them out for free if I see them at my library. I would like to see “Green Book,” “A Star is Born,” “The Favorite,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
I plan to watch They Shall Not Grow old and Bohemium Rapsody.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is the only nominated film I saw, and that was at home on T.V..
Why in the world would we want to watch that?
Well, I must confess, my granddaughter, daughter, sil, and I are going to see Lion King this summer.
I never ‘go to the movies’ because I will not subsidize that sewer in hollyweird
It’s a kind of civil dissent I’m been at for decades... They don’t need my dollars.
Totally agree with your review. Mrs. Maisel is outstanding. The acting and recreation of the time period is exceptional. And you actually care about the characters. One more thing, Tony Schaloob’s performance is a riot. Too bad the guy’s a liberal putz.
We haven’t been to a movie Theater in years.
I wasn’t even aware they were on....we just got a Fire Stick and enrolled in Amazon Prime because one of my wife’s friends has it and she found some interesting show....getting ready to move into a new place and will probably go to a more “Spartan” Uverse package because most of TV is reruns of reruns....
nope
never even heard of most of this crap.
last time I was actually in a theater was 2007
They Shall Not Grow Old was the only movie we watched in 2018 (unless the Darkest Hour was out in 2018). We are very picky about what we watch and what we spend money on. I have not heard of any of the movies except for Black Panther and I had heard that it was pretty good. Still not going to watch it.
Yeah, I’ve written screenplays and I can tell you it isn’t at all hard to write 150 pages (which translates to approximately 150 min) and is considered far too long. Then THAT has to be whittled down to maybe 90 pages. Man, having 8 or 9 or 20 hours...just damn...
