This BS 60 votes needed crap is getting old.

Tell me about it. And they didn't even have to technically vote "against" the bill. Just vote against "bringing it to the floor" and "ending debate" (cloture)

Whoever invented that CLOTURE rule should have bleach poured on them....and some other stuff.

But they're probly dead by now.

Aaaaaand, since I'm ranting. Neither party will EVER change that rule, cause they just might need it for when THEY are ever in the minority.

The inventor of the cloture rule died around 200 years ago. At one time both the House and Senate observed it. But as the House grew in size, cloture became unwieldy, and now only the Senate observes it.

Dems will change it when they get the majority back. If they do—but 2020 is a good year for them, from the map.

Republicans like it because they can pretend to vote the way their supporters want, and still never get anything done.

It’s a show vote anyway, because as McConnell knows, it will go nowhere in the House. The time to pass something was the previous two years, but Ryan kept the House in check on behalf of the dems.
