Did you consider that most of the valuable Alexandria Library works might have been secreted away by people that knew their worth and rightly imagined what they could do with that knowledge when no one else had access to those works?

No, I never considered that. I just remember reading that the entire library burned to the ground, with the largest collection of written works then known to man, much of which was irreplaceable. If that did not happen, perhaps the Da Vinci Code guy might write about it.
