While it was a financial loser, it did what was intended, said retired GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, who shepherded the Volt into production. One suspects that Mister Lutz lies without worry about that pesky conscience thingy.
My questions are more focused regarding potential influence of Dem politics re the 'volt', but that's just me being suspicious.

Our 2017 Volt is on it’s last month of a 3 year lease. It has been a great car. Not one problem in 30,000 miles. Fun car to drive with the instant silent torque. Electric cars are the future. I just test drove a Chevy Bolt where you can drive in stop and go traffic with one pedal (not having to take your foot off the accelerator). In a few years most electric cars will have a 400 mile range with 30 minute charging. An electric 4WD pickup is coming out next year with a 400 mile range and O-60 in 3.5 seconds. Embrace the technology.

[GM, he said, should have spent more to promote the car. Ive been really surprised at the lack of marketing, he said. I would not have an electric car if I did not have that gas engine.]
I don’t think this Volt owner understands that every Volt sold lost money for GM. It wanted to sell just enough to help the blended gas mileage of its cars sold in the US meet CAFE standards. Marketing the heck out of the car would have eaten into GM’s profitability if it had actually sold more Volts.

I saw one in a parking lot with dealers plates on it. Asked the driver if it was one of them new coal powered cars. Guy said ,”no, it’s electric”. I then asked him where the electricity came from. He got mad and walked away.

Last summer we visited family near Palm Springs. I witnessed a very amusing sight of one of those $100,000 Tesla’s driving in 120 degree weather with ALL THE WINDOWS down. I finally realized that they did not have enough ‘energy’ and could not turn on the air conditioning and make it home. I laughed all the way to the gas station (air conditioning on full blast) where I filled up my gas tank with renewable energy (it renews to 100% every time I fill up the tank). L u
