Yes, we would sometimes use small pears from a local tree. I watched a car spin out in the street after being hit by a snowball; terrifying (no collision or injuries, thank God).

When I think about running through peoples’ yards to get away, I realize that today those residents would be much more alarmed to hear that. Motion-sensor lights had just started to appear when we were growing up; probably makes that much more difficult (if not impossible) today. They seem to be everywhere, often startling you as you simply walk past on the sidewalk...

I recall reading some psychology article about kids doing stuff. When asked “Why did you do that?” and they answer “I don't know” - they really don't know! They didn't think about it beforehand, and perhaps don't even realize the full reality of it afterwards.

Although I imagine that peer pressure and/or group mentality has a lot to do with the stupid things we did as kids.
